Uri: Alleging administrative monopoly and hijacking of DDC polls, National Conference’s North Kashmir vice President Dr. Sajad Shafi on Saturday said that district administration had illegally deprived him of right to vote from his native village, Garkote Uri, throwing rules set by Election commission of India to winds.

“I have been deprived of constitutional right -right to vote- by district administration Baramulla as they are denying me from addition or deletion of vote in my native village Garkote Uri. I fail to understand on whose directions administration is working on,” asked Dr. Sajad Shafi son of six time MLA and MP, Muhammad Shafi, of Uri while addressing a press conference at Uri

Dr. Sajad said, “My Assembly vote is in Garkote then why my Panchyat vote is not in my own village. When I came to know that my vote has been deleted from Halqa Panchayat Garkote A and wrongly entered in MC electoral roll. As per election commission order, I applied for addition and deletion of my vote.”

“SDM Uri sought objections from executive officer MC Uri and from Panchyat of Garkote but there were no objections from any of the places for addition and deletion of my vote. But ironically, despite being resident of Garkote Uri where we owns land, posses Adhar Card with address of Garkote, figures in ration card of my  father Mohammad Shafi Uri, holds PRC of Garkote village, committee in its report states that they are not satisfied with conditions for inclusion/transposition,”  shrugs shocked Dr.Sajad.

“As per notification of Election Commission of India, anyone can go for addition or deletion his name from the electoral roll.  Despite being a temporary resident of Uri town as motioned in the report too as I have my rented office here, my vote has been registered in electoral roll of Municipal Ward No 11. When I applied for deletion and transpositation of my vote I was denied on illogical grounds,” he said.

He alleged it is sheer political discrimination and monopoly of district administration as he However, Electoral Registration   Officer (ERO) Sub Divisional Magistrate Uri   issues an order bearing no ERO/URI/20/27-33 Dated 19/11/2020 stating that claim of applicants Dr. Sajad Shafi and his wife for deletion and transportation of vote from electoral roll of Municipal Ward No 11 to Panchayat Halqa Garkote-A lacks merit for consideration so Dr. Sajad Shafi fails to file nominations for DDC polls for Boniyar Constituency.

Dr. Sajad alleged that district administration particularly DC Barmaulla Dr. G.N Itoo is hell bent upon discrimination and exploitation of border residents as people killed cross border shelling are yet receive any ex-gratia or compensation to their damaged houses.

“We are left to the mercy of cross borders shelling. CSR funds from power projects of Uri are being utilized by DC Baramulla hospitals of Pattan and Sopore. Our ambulances are lying in CMO office but BMO Boniyar is crying for it as shelling victims are dying. Our development projects are languishing,” alleges Dr. Sajad Shafi .

“DC Baramulla making false claims and on ground there is no development. He is betraying innocent people with hollow promises and dancing on tones of his masters,” he added.
