JKH(S&E) Corporation to revive traditional crafts, link them with Corp. Showrooms

SRINAGAR : In a bid to revive traditional crafts like pottery, willow wicker, gabba sozi, bamboo work etc and provide support to the livelihood of the artisans involved, the present dispensation of J&K Handicrafts (S&E) Corporation is going to link such crafts with the corporation showrooms.

For this purpose, the corporation has asked a team of officers and officials to visit the artisan community/clusters/societies, self help groups involved in the manufacturing of Pottery, Willow Wicker, Gabba Sozi in the areas like Anchar Soura, Haran, Kachan of Ganderbal district and Kadipora, Anantnag to get in touch with the basic artisans of such crafts.

The Corporation is soon inaugurating the remodeled Heritage Showroom on modern lines in the Heritage Emporium Garden that shall carry a galaxy of handicrafts artifacts for display and sale.

In an effort to benefit the artisan community and to market the said products, the corporation is going to procure the artifacts of Pottery, Willow, Gabba on an outright purchase basis directly from the basic artisans thus eliminating the role of middlemen.

It is pertinent to mention that besides these new traditional crafts, the J&K Handicrafts (S&E) Corporation has been providing market support to handicrafts artifacts of various crafts viz Shawl, Pashmina, Carpet, Chain Stitch, Numdah, Paper Mache,Wood Carving, Crewel and Sozni Embroidery.
