Day 2: Covid positive cases still in four digits

Srinagar: The tally of Covid-19 patients in Jammu and Kashmir continued to be in four digits on the second consecutive day as 1047 tested positive on Friday.

Officials said that 554 fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported from Kashmir and 493 from Jammu division, taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 40990.

The officials further said that 31435 patients have recovered till date – with 545 recoveries from Srinagar and 131 from Jammu division – reported today.

“Out of 1031316 test results available, 990326 samples have been tested as negative till September 04, 2020,” said the officials.

Officials said that Srinagar has reported 9810 positive cases and 8191 recoveries till date; Baramulla, 2937 cases and 2328 recoveries; Pulwama, 2767 cases and 2260 recoveries; Kulgam,  1982 cases and 1820 recoveries; Shopian, 1735 cases and 1611 recoveries; Anantnag, 2464 cases and 1932 recoveries;  Budgam, 2722 cases and 1985 recoveries; Kupwara, 2235 cases and 1564 recoveries; Bandipora, 2318 cases and 1595 recoveries and; Ganderbal has 1609 positive cases and 1188 recoveries.

Meanwhile, 11 more people died due to Covid-19 in Jammu and Kashmir in last 24 hours, taking the fatality count to 756.

Quoting officials, a local news agency, GNS, reported that among the victims, eight belonged to Kashmir Valley and three to Jammu division.

Regarding the deaths in the Valley, GNS reported, three victims were residents of Srinagar, two each from Baramulla and Kupwara and one from Pulwama.

Regarding deaths from Jammu, the news agency reported that a 70-year-old patient from Gujjar Nagar Jammu passed away at GMC Jammu while a 50-year-old man from Afghan Mohalla in Jammu City who was suffering from hypertension and Community Acquire Pneumonia died in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu last evening within hours of hospitalization.

With these deaths, officials said, 756 people have succumbed to the virus in Jammu and Kashmir so far. Among them, they said, 675 were from the Valley while 81 from Jammu division.

Srinagar district with 231 deaths tops the list followed by Baramulla (103), Budgam (64), Anantnag (52), Pulwama (56), Kupwara (53), Jammu (54), Kulgam (37), Shopian (28), Bandipora (26), Ganderbal (24), Rajouri (5), Doda (5), Poonch (4), Kathua (5), Udhampur (3), Samba (2) and Ramban (1).
