Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party youth secretary, Arif Laigaroo has demanded release of his party president and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti ahead of Eid.
Demanding immediate release, Laigaroo said, “PDP demands release of Mehbooba Mufti and all political prisoners lodged in various jails of J&K and outside ahead of Eid.”
He, in a statement, said that hundreds of youth in jails for minor offences for the last few years, should be released under general amnesty, and as a goodwill gesture in a bid to improve the ground situation in Kashmir.
He said that the Public Safety Act has been grossly misused against political prisoners by repeatedly booking them on one pretext or the other.
