Contact tracing underway after cop from Baramulla village tests positive for Covid-19

Baramulla: A day after cop from Malpora village Narwav area in Baramulla district tested positive for Covid-19, health authorities have started massive “contact tracing” operation to find out the people who have come in contact with him.

A top official of medical block Sheeri confirmed that a 35 year old cop of Malpora Narwav was tested positive for Covid-19 after he came with direct contact with his colleague from Budgam had already tested positive.

This is the second incident of a police personnel testing positive for the coronavirus. A few days ago, a constable from Rathusuna village of Budgam tested positive in Srinagar.

“The duo cops are posted at India Reserve Police (IRP) 3rd Battalion at Bemina Srinagar. Though they didn’t attend any religious event organized by Tableegi Jamat but came into contact with them in a Srinagar Mosque,” sources said.

The cop from Malpora Baramulla has visited his family, relatives in Malpora, Zandafaran and in-laws in Audora a week ago after that he was quarantined.

“A massive contact tracing operation is under way. So far we traced 14 direct contacts of the cop including his family members, relatives and in-laws and shifted them to hospital quarantine center at Delina Baramulla,” the top officia said.

Another doctor who screened the family, relatives and other direct contacts told Kashmir Images that the cop has large scale contacts in the Naravwah area as he has driven a car and visited his in-laws nearby Audoora village and relatives in Zandafaran village.

“We are tracing the contacts as he has also his hair cut by a barber and his father running a medical shop in Dangerpora village besides a closed relative who putting up with the family of the cop also runs a chemist shop in Malpora village. It looks a long chain and we are undertaking a massive operation to trace primary contacts first,” the doctor added.

Brother of the cop who also in police was shifted to quarantine center from Chandoosa court complex along with his collogues as they are manning court security and the area was sanitized besides several cops have been quarantined so far, sources said.

He added that a message has been dispatched to his seniors and those who have come in his contact will be quarantined.

Earlier, a baker presently a resident of Botingoo who was under home quarantine tested positive, the victim as per officials had a travel history of Nizamuddin New Delhi and was working at Baker’s shop in the area.

So far, Baramulla has 44 positive cases as it was 42 two and now with Sopore baker and cop, Baramulla has 44 positive cases, said Dr. Zulifakar Nodal official Covid-19.
