SRINAGAR, JANUARY 29: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary Wednesday visited Malshahi Bagh in Ganderbal district to inspect the interim measures the Public Health Engineering department has taken at the spot of damage to the Sindh Extension or SE canal to ensure uninterrupted water supply to Srinagar areas.

Concerned officers including Joint Director Planning Yaseen Lone and Executive Engineer PHE Mehraj Bhat accompanied him.

The DC lauded the PHE department for extensive interim measures – which include laying of five layers of bypass pipes – taken at the damaged spot of the canal to ensure uninterrupted supply of water to affected areas of Srinagar.

It is notable the Srinagar administration released 10 lakh rupees to the PHE department earlier this month for undertaking relevant restoration measures at the damaged spot.

It was informed that more funds are being provided for further strengthening interim measures at the spot in order to achieve smoother supply of water to affected areas of Srinagar.

The DC also visited the Rangil water treatment plant during the visit and took stock of its functioning. He also inspected the progress of ongoing languishing projects including the 10 MGD WTP and 20 MGD WTP on the occasion.

It was informed that work for revamping of these treatment plants is in full swing and is expected to be completed before the end of the current fiscal.

He was informed that a 125 KVA power generator has been installed at the Rangil plant for which the district administration had released 15 lakh rupees to the department last month.

Meanwhile the DC has sanctioned another 10 lakh rupees to the PHE department for acquiring protective gear for its staff.

Dr Shahid while speaking on the occasion said the PHE engineers have done a commendable job putting in place interim measures and ensuring uninterrupted supply of water to Srinagar in spite of a considerable damage to the raw water SE canal in Ganderbal.
