Poonch: A naib Sarpanch was injured as armies of Pakistan and India on Saturday traded shelling along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

A police officer told news agency GNS that the Pakistani army opened unprovoked fire on Army posts at Mankote, Krishana Ghati and Balakote today at around 9:00 am.

“At about 0900 hours, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation while resorting to firing by small arms and shelling with mortars along LoC in Mendhar sector, while adding that Army soldiers manning the LoC retaliated strongly.”

According to the official, “the cross border shelling continued for a brief time.”

Some shells landed near residential areas resulting in injuries to Naib Sarpanch Zaffar Ullah Khan of Baloni in Mankote tehsil.

Zaffar, as per reports, suffered injuries in his right hand and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital.
