Horticulture Graduates stage protest, demand job policy

Srinagar, July 11: Horticulture Graduates of Sheri Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences (SKUAST) today hit streets to seek comprehensive job policy and firm steps to make the horticulture department highly technical.

Shouting slogans in favor of their demands, the scholars assembled at Press Enclave and staged protest demanding the government to frame comprehensive job policy for degree holders.

They said technically sound degree holders of horticulture department should be accepted for different technical and extension posts.

They said despite the matter being endorsed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare government of India, the state Horticulture Department did not consider the same thus making the students perusing various degree courses to suffer immensely.

The protesting scholars also demanded immediate removal of the Secretary Horticulture department for being allegedly inattentive towards the issues students and the department he heads confronts at present.

Amir Bashir Wani a PHD Scholar alleged that state government miserably failed to frame any job policy for the PG and PHD students over the past ten years.

“We made several representations to the government in this regards but no efforts were made. Governments incentive approach makes us feel that the degrees we were conferred with are of no use.  I think we wasted our time given slack approach of the authorities to address our issues,” said Wani.

The protesting students appealed the Governor Satyapal Malik to save their future and order a probe why the horticulture department failed to create job avenues for those having pursued different degrees in horticulture subject.
