Srinagar, May 20: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers at a checkpoint near Kirikadal Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

In a statement issued here, a police spokesman said: “Two persons identified as Gull Mohammed Lone son of Abdul Aziz lone resident of Upzan Bijbehara and Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Aziz Bhat resident of Banderpora Bijbehara arrested for the drug offences have been taken to Police Station Bijbehara where they remain in custody.”

“Officers at the checkpoint have seized 420 kilograms of fukki from their possession; besides, an auto load carrier bearing registration number JK03G-6578 was also seized. In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Bijbehara and investigation has been taken up,” the spokesman said.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” the spokesman added.
