Srinagar, Apr 15: The Gagangeer-Sonamarg stretch of Srinagar-Leh highway reopened for traffic on Monday after remaining closed for vehicular movement for nearly four-and-a-half months.
Officials said the 10-kilometre road stretch was closed in December last year following heavy snowfall.
A number of light motor vehicles including tourist and passenger cabs moved towards Sonamarag after green signal by the authorities.
Masrat Hashim, SDM Kangan said that the road up to Sonamarag has been thrown open for light motor vehicles and the traffic will ply under strict observation to avoid any inconvenience.
“The process of restoring water and electricity in Sonamarg is on,” he said.
Officials said that the traffic movement on the Gagangeer-Sonamrag stretch is allowed from 11AM to 3PM only till further orders.
