The Meeraj (ascent of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to the heavens) was observed with religious fervor across the state last Thursday on 27th of Rajab (seventh month of Islamic lunar calendar).

Today special religious congregations were held at different shrines across the Valley — the main gathering being at Hazratbal shrine here that houses the Holy relic (hair strand) of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), which was displayed for public sighting after each prayer.

People from across the Valley converged at the revered shrine on the banks of Dal Lake throughout the day. The largest gathering was witnessed during congregational Friday prayers.

Similar religious congregations were also at Asaar-e-sharief Lal Bazar, Jenab Saheb Soura, Kalashpora, Syed Sahib-Sonawar, Shopian, Makhama-Beerwah and other places.
