Drivers Union Imam Sahab protests dilapidated condition of Shopian-Bijbehara road

Shopian, March 18: Drivers Union Sumo stand Imam Sahab Shopian on Monday protested and blocked Shopian-Bijbehara road over the dilapidated condition of the said road which they said is causing damage to their vehicles.

According to witnesses, the protesting drivers did not allow any vehicular movement beyond Sumo stand Imam Sahab.

The protesting drivers told Kashmir Images that since the time Shopian-Bijbehara road was macadamized, it has never been repaired. “The concerned department continues to remain indifferent towards our woes as instead of repairing vital Shopian-Bijbehara road, it is busy in constructing peripheral link roads,” they added.

The drivers further said that they will continue to block the road till any decision is taken with regard to repairmen of the road.

Meanwhile, drivers at Sumo stand Zainapora, Chitragam and Shopian also staged protest over the same issue.

When contacted Deputy Commissioner Shopian said: “The concerned department is taking steps to repair the Shopian-Bijbehara road and its widening will be also done.”
