JAMMU, FEBRUARY 7: Sonam Wangchuk, an engineer, innovator, and education reformist, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today.

Wangchuk informed Governor about the outcome of his continuing endeavors to reform the education system and bring it in sync with ground realities by pursuing locally relevant knowledge, values and skills and about the to date status of the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, a skill-based University, which will encourage experiential learning via practical application of knowledge.

Appreciating the innovative approach of Wangchuk towards education, Governor stressed the need for making educationsystem relevant for providing solutions to the local problems and encouraging youth towards knowledge based constructive contribution to the Society.

Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk, internationally acclaimed innovator and academician called on Advisor to Governor, Kewal Kumar Sharma and discussed several developmental issues related to Ladakh.

Wangchuk discussed in detail the projects related to harnessing the solar energy by way of generating electricity through it and also development of pastures, irrigation facilities, besides sponsoring educational avenues, job opportunities to the youth by way of installing power plants in the area.

The Advisor assured him of all the possible help in ensuring that the solar energy of the Ladakh district is properly harnessed, so that the State becomes self-sufficient in power generation.

Commissioner/ Secretary PDD, Hridesh Kumar was also present on the occasion.
