Srinagar: President Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF), Abdul Qayoom Wani on Friday decided to voluntarily retire from the government services and resigned from the basic membership of JKTF and Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC), which he was heading as a trade union leader.

Sources close to Wani said that he will be joining Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and may be its candidate for Baramulla-Kupwara Lok Sabha seat.

Wani told a local news agency, KNS that the decision to join politics is aimed to serve people of the society in general. He added that he will contest the upcoming parliamentary elections from north Kashmir.

He further said that the deliberations with PDP were going on and there will be a breakthrough over his joining soon, possibly on Saturday.

“I believe that I can contribute to resolve the chronic issue at parliament to ensure relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Not employees mainly, but I will contribute to the whole society selflessly as I have contributed in the past,” he told KNS.
