APHC convenes meeting; hails statement of British parliamentarian
Srinagar, January 15: All Parties Hurriyat Conference convened an extraordinary meeting of its Majlis-e-Shoora which was presided over by its chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, at his Hyderpora residence, a press release issued here said adding that the meeting took stock of the current situation with reference to the ongoing movement for right to self-determination.
The meeting which was attended by the representatives of the amalgam termed Kashmir issue as a ‘long pending political and humanitarian issue’ to be settled by exercising free and fair plebiscite.
Hailing the statement of British Parliamentarian to help solve the Kashmir issue if voted to power, participants of the meeting observed that such statements vindicated the stand of Hurriyat and proved beyond doubt the disputed nature of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
In his address, Hurriyat Chairman termed Kashmir issue a ‘globally accepted dispute’ where in the people’s right to self-determination was not only acknowledged but confirmed by more than a dozen resolutions. “The persistent denial of our basic rights has turned this beautiful piece of land into a hell where every day killings, crackdowns, arrests, nocturnal raids and bulldozing residences has became a routine. People have been forced to live a harassed and threatened life, with continuous psychological stress,” Geelani was quoted as saying by the press release.
Geelani also condemned the ‘draconian laws’ slapped against people and also ‘pro-freedom political workers’. “Many countries have economic interests in India which is the reason that despite knowing and confirming the barbaric and brute face of India they keep mum, which encourages its meanness and beastliness,” the press release added.
Reiterating his appeal for boycott of elections, Hurriyat chairman said that those elected in the name of basic needs like road, electricity and drinking water act as local collaborators of the ‘occupational forces’
