Crime Branch, Jammu recovers Rs 60 lakh from interstate fraudsters

Srinagar, Dec 31: Crime Branch of police on Monday claimed to have arrested two inter-state fraudsters and recovered Rs 60 lakhs from them which they had cheated from a Jammu businessman.

According to a Crime Branch spokesman, one Ravinder Kumar Gupta of Barnai Tehsil in Jammu had lodged a written complaint saying that he was duped by grain merchants Gopal Lal and his son Gagan Lal of Bhamasha Kota of Rs 1.20 crore on the pretext that they would supply rice paddy to him.

However, even after receiving the money, they didn’t supply rice to Gupta, spokesman said.

He said after preliminary verifications, a formal case of cheating was registered against the accused and a police team was deputed to Kota, Rajasthan and accused persons were arrested and recovery of duped amount to the tune of Rs 60 lakhs was affected from them. The arrested accused are on police remand and investigation of the case is in progress, spokesman said.
