Videos of teachers beating student in a private school in Uri go viral

Baramulla, Dec 21: Taking cognizance of corporal punishment meted out to students inside the classroom of a school in Uri area of Baramulla district after its videos went viral on social media, Child Welfare Committee on Friday summoned the school administration to appear before its bench.

Acting on an application from the District Child Protection Unit officials, the Child Welfare Committee summoned the school administration of Immamia Public High School, Noorkhah Boniyar, to appear before its bench in connection with a viral video on social media which shows students being beaten ruthlessly by the teachers, said CWC chairperson, Shaeeq-ur-Rahman.

“It was clearly seen that children are being ruthlessly beaten by the teachers inside the classroom. The committee observes that the act seen in the video is the violation of child rights as laid down under J&K Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2013 and Rules 2014 and laws laid down by Hon’ble Supreme Court and Hon’ble High Court of J&K,” said Member CWC, Waseem Hassan Parray.

Several parents whose wards are studying in the said school have demanded action against the involved teachers under law.
