Local residents said the scheme was started in 1993 since then its condition has only worsened. “The scheme is of little use as people here are being supplied with untreated water.”

They said the pump station has no facility of standby power supply. “There is a requirement of generator to keep the station working. The power supply remains off for days together and the station remains defunct which causes immense problem to people,” they added.

Imtiyaz Ahmad, a local resident said: “The water being supplied to the villages is untreated and thereby making the people vulnerable to diseases. The reservoir is without roof and the water in it can get easily contaminated.”

The residents said that they have approached the authorities several times but to no avail.

Despite repeated attempts by this reporter, Executive Engineer Public Health Engineering (PHE), Ganerbal could not be contacted for comments.
