No election in Sangrama block, seven candidates in fray for Panchayat election in Wagoora block

SANGRAMA / WAGOORA, Nov 19: All arrangements are set for the second phase of Panchayat elections scheduled today in the State amid tight security.

According to officials, in Sangrama constituency, the elections will be held in Wagoora block only, while as Sangrama will witness no election as all candidates in the block are contesting unopposed. “Seven candidates in Sangrama are contesting unopposed for the Sarpanch seats and no forms were submitted for remaining eight seats,” they added

Block Development Officer (BDO) Sangrama, Naseem Geelani, told Kashmir Images that Sangrama block has total 15 Panch seats and 129 Panch seats among which only seven candidates have filled their nomination for Sarpanch seats.

“The areas where seven candidates are contesting unopposed for Sarpanch seats include SangranmPeth-seer, Krankshivan, Rengi, Hygam-B, Sangrama, Puthkha nad Bulgam,” said Geelani.

“Among 129 Panch seats in Sangrama, three candidates, from Kranshivan , Panzipora and Hygam – B, are contesting unopposed and no nominations were filled for 126 wards,” he added.

Block Development Officer (BDO) Wagoora, Abdul Rashid, told Kashmir Images that Wagoora block has a total of 32 Sarpanch seats for which seven candidates are contesting unopposed, while as 7 Sarpanch candidates are in fray and rest of the 16 Sarpanch seats are without nominations.

“Out of 266 Panch seats, 45 candidates are contesting unopposed and no nominations have been filled for the 221 Panch seats,” Rashid said adding that it is mandatory for the election commission to issue notice for re-election of 221 Panch seats.

Meanwhile, 65 polling stations have been setup for the contest of 7 Sarpanch seats for which 16 candidates are in fray.
