Shopian, Nov 16: Residents of Zainapora village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district have alleged that they are facing acute shortage of drinking water since season’s first snowfall.

According to locals, the Kanni Nag water supply scheme in their area is proving useless due to negligence of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.

One of the residents of Zainapora village, Bilal Ahmad Naik, said: “The mechanical wing of PHE department Zainapora is doing nothing to solve the issue of water crisis in our area.”

“The electric generator of the Mechanical Department is lying defunct and the concerned authorities are taking no pains to repair it,” he added.

Residents here said that the only excuse available with PHE department to pacify them is the shortage of electricity as it fails to repair the defunct generator.

When contacted Executive Engineer PHE Shopian said: “I have already visited the area and taken stock of the water crisis being faced by the residents. We have made the availability of a generator and the issue will be resolved as soon as possible.”
