Media studies of GDC Baramulla organizes media festival

Baramulla:  To showcase the talent of students and promote inter-institutional collaboration, the Department of Media Studies (DMS), Government Degree College Baramulla organised one-day Media Festival at the campus Saturday.

Entitled as “showcasing the talent of future communicators,” the festival was attended by students of the media departments of Govt College for Women M A Road Srinagar, Govt Degree College Anantnag and 12th standard students of six schools of Baramulla district, a statement issued bt th department said.

During the day-long event, eleven films made by the students of DMS under supervision of faculty member Afzal Sofi were screened, which were acclaimed by the audience. In the photography exhibition, pictures, sketches, calligraphy and poetry posters of the students on various themes were displayed. Skit performances on media and social issues were also part of the festival, said the statement.

In his inaugural address, Prof F R Beigh principal of the college said that the media festival is aimed at forging institutional collaboration.

“We welcome proposals by other institutions for greater teacher and student interactions; in the present times there is need for cooperation and collaborations,” he emphasized. Appreciating the DMS of the college for taking lead in  organizing the inter-institutional interface, he said the college will always support such progressive initiatives.

Dr Danish Nabi, HoD DMS, while welcoming the delegates said the department has envisaged a structured collaboration between other media schools and the media festival is a step towards that goal.

Akhtar Niyaz , senior faculty member spoke about the evolution of the DMS as first media school at undergraduate level in the state.

Prof Tariq A Chalkoo, HoD Physics, appreciated the DMS for organising the festival. He emphasized the need for resource sharing between the educational institutions for larger benefit of students.

Dr Suhail Ahmad, HoD Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Govt College for Women M A Road Srinagar hailed the initiative of the DMS for reaching out to other media schools of Kashmir.

Prof Parvaiz Lone, Assistant Professor DMS proposed the vote of thanks.
