Over 70% turnout recorded in LAHDC Kargil Polls

KARGIL: Over 70 percent voting was recorded in the 4th General Election to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, which passed off peacefully today.

The information was given by the Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer (LAHDC) Kargil, (Election Authority), Vikas Kundal here this evening after the conclusion of polling.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the counting of votes is scheduled for 31st of August, 2018 and by September 5 new Council will be in place.

Around 99 candidates are in the fray, he said.

He said that the voter turnout shows enthusiasm among the voters, especially, women who turned out in greater numbers at most of the polling booths in and around Kargil Town besides across the district.

A large number of young voters were also witnessed during the polling that went off peacefully across the district. He said that the figures of percentage are tentative and are expected to rise as certain polling stations are still to give their result.

Deputy Commissioner Vikas Kundal and SP Kargil, Dr Pawan Kumar also visited various polling booths during the polling.
