Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government has declared a public holiday today as a mark of respect for Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away in New Delhi today.

All schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed today, 17 August, 2018, in the memory of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former prime minister of India who passed away on 16^th of August at All India Institute of Medical Science, a GAD order said.

The order further said that the state mourning shall be observed for seven days, from 16^th-22^nd August, and the National and State Flags shall fly at half mast. There shall be no official entertainment during this period, the order added.
