Budgam, July 27: Dozens of residents of Budgam’s model village, Mahwara, staged a protest on Friday against the district administration and Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to provide drinking water facility here.

Raising slogans against the concerned authorities, the protesters blocked Budgam-Beerwah road outside the residence of President Anjuman Sharie Shian and senior Hurriyat leader, Aga Syed Hassan.

Protesters said that Mahwara village is without drinking water from the last 10 days, after the pipeline was damaged by a landslide. “We are being compelled to fetch drinking water from nearby villages as PHE department has turned a blind eye towards the issue,” said a protester Nasir Hussain

Demonstrators said that they approached Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam and Executive Engineer PHE twice, but to no avail. “We found protest the only alternative so that to raise our issue,” they added.
