An Army official said that forces launched an anti-militancy operation in Bandipora district following information about presence of militants in the area.

He said two militants have been killed so far even as the operation continues to be in progress.

The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants was not immediately known.

Earlier reports suggested that two militants were killed during the encounter.

The Army sources said that the group has recently infiltrated into this side of LoC and more militants are expected to be hiding in the forests.

The operation was on when the reports last came in.
