Youth killed, another injured in Kulgam firing
Anantnag, Jun 18: A youth was killed and another injured after Army troops opened fire in Akhran-Nowpora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday.
Reports said that youth pelted an Army patrol of 9 RR with stones at Akhran-Nowpora in Kulgam.
The Army troops, they said, opened fire to disperse the protesters, resulting in injuries to two civilians.
The injured were rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, one of them succumbed on the way. The deceased was identified as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, of Nowpora Akhran.
The other injured was identified as Rayees Ahmad.
An Army spokesman said the troops fired in “self-defence” after a patrol party came under heavy stone pelting by mob at Nowpora Akhran Kulgam.
