Jammu, May 31: Peoples Democratic Party General Secretary Ved Mahajan Gupta on Wednesday welcomed the ceasefire announcement made by the DGMOs of both India and Pakistan, stating that such a positive development will provide a sigh of relief for those living alone the LOC and international border in the state.

In a statement issued here, Gupta said that the initiatives being taken by the government of India must be welcomed by one and all in the state irrespective of the party lines as it is Jammu and Kashmir that has been getting affected by the arch rivalry between the two countries who fight skirmishes on the borders.

He added that the ceasefire is being received by the people of the state with a most welcoming approach and hardly there would be anyone who wouldn’t want it to remain in vogue for times to come.

He added that the violence on borders has been taking toll, affecting the local populace and denying them their right to live peacefully and earn livelihood with dignity.

Gutpa maintained that the PDP has been demanding the thaw between the two countries for long and prevalence of peace has been its core ideology since the day of its foundation.

Hailing the efforts of the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti for impressing upon the helmsmen in New Delhi to extend the hand of friendship towards the neighbouring countries, the PDP general secretary said the party hasn’t been leaving any stone unturned to ensure that the state could witness an era of peace, tranquillity and progress all across.
