Reports said that personnel of 34 RR visited D. K Pora village in Shopian district with some eatables Monday evening with the purpose of serving the same to locals for Iftar.

The locals, reports said, refused to accept the eatables and in the meanwhile some youth started pelting stones.

Some locals said that initially they politely requested the army to leave the village but the forces refused to do so compelling the people to stage a protest.

“People not only refused to have the meals brought by the army but they also threw all eatable on the ground,” they said.

They said that Army opened fire to disperse the protesters resulting in bullet injuries to four girls.

The Injured girls were identified as Aqsa jan, Shuby jan, Shafia jan and Shakira.

Aqsa Jan D/O Ayoub Magray received bullet injury in her back and was shifted to a nearby hospital wherefrom she was referred to Skims Srinagar for further treatment.

Other Injured girls were shifted to District Hospital Kulgam wherefrom another injured girl, Shobi Jan, 14, daughter of Abdul Qayoom Hajam was referred to SMHS Srinagar.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman in a statement said that today around the iftar time, an army patrol of 34 RR had gone to the Jamia masjid of DK Pora village, for participating in iftar with the locals of the area.

During the Iftar, a mob of miscreants attacked the army patrol with stones and other items. The army party withdrew from the scene by firing Ariel warning shots.

Subsequently 4 injuries were reported to different hospitals, probably firearm injuries. All the injured are reportedly stable, the spokesman said adding, the police has taken cognizance of the episode, and started legal proceedings.
