Students of Primary School Nagbal facing inconvenience and risk
Ganderbal: The location of “decades-old” Government Girls Primary School Nagbal in Ganderbal is proving inconvenient and dangerous for the schoolchildren here.
According to the locals, Govt Girls Primary School Nagabal, established in 1965, was functioning in the rented rooms for more than forty years. “Few years ago a building was constructed for the school but the location of the building is proving inconvenient and dangerous for the students,” the locals said.
“Noise of vehicles and dust reaches the school premises easily because the building is situated bang on the Srinagar-Leh highway,” they added.
Nelofar, who teaches at the primary school said, “The noise of traffic disturbs the class-work here. Students are unable to concentrate on their studies. Dust and smoke that originate from the vehicles have caused health problems to the students.”
“The School also lacks basic facilities. We don’t have a playground. There is only one washroom for both teachers and students,” she added.
Mohd Amin, a parent said, the school lacks fencing which can poses huge risk to the students as the highway is just a few steps away from the school premises.
“The number of students attending the primary school has declined over the years because school lacks fencing and the parents are unwilling to admit their wards in this school as they don’t want to put the life of their children at risk,” he said.
When contacted CEO Ganderbal, Gayasudin Sheikh acknowledged that the school is not located at a proper place.
“Let the residents of Nagbal meet me so that we can find availability of the land in the village where we can construct the new building of the school,” the CEO assured.
