Protests erupt in KU after lecturer goes missing

SRINAGAR: Protests erupted in Kashmir University on Saturday after a contractual lecturer appointed in the sociology department of the varsity went missing.

The lecturer is from Chunduna Ganderbal district and has been identified Dr Mohammad Rafi Bhat son of Abdul Rahim Bhat.

His family members reported to the university’s chief proctor that he is missing since yesterday.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by KU said that the vice-chancellor has written to the Director General of Police, requesting him that all efforts be made to trace the whereabouts of the said contractual lecturer.

The offices of the Chancellor as well as the Pro-Chancellor have also been apprised about the matter, said the statement.

The statement further said that the vice chancellor personally met the protesting students and assured them that all efforts would be made to trace the missing lecturer.

“The university is in touch with the local police. Students are requested to maintain calm and cooperate,” added the statement.
