Saying that the profession of journalism does offer a certain level of freedom to its practitioners, the speakers urged the trainee journalists to inculcate qualities of responsibility in themselves to use that freedom conscientiously.

“Freedom of press has emerged among the gravest challenges to journalism in today’s world, but a sensitive and responsible journalist does not give-up his professional requirements of dispassionate reporting and commenting because that is the very essence of the profession,” they maintained.

The students shared their views and understanding regarding press freedom with the senior journalists and were delighted to listen to their anecdotes of their professional career.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Principal of the College Prof F R Beigh commended the Department of Media Studies for organising an interaction. “Such interface between the experts from the field and our students is essential for their intellectual growth,” he said.

Dr Danish Nabi, HoD Media Studies, Dr Murtaza Geelani, Staff Secretary and Prof Tariq A Chalkoo, HoD Physics Department also spoke on the occasion.

Senior faculty Akhter Niyaz presented the vote of thanks.

The programme was moderated by Assistant Professor Pervez Majeed.
