Without wages from months, PDD daily wagers stage protest in Baramulla
Baramulla: Scores of daily wage workers of Power Development Department (PDD) staged a protest demonstration against concerned authorities, for not releasing their wages, at Dakbanglow Baramulla on Saturday.
Chanting slogans against government and authorities of the PDD department, the daily wagers were holding banners with slogans “Mehnat Hamari Loot Tumhari Nahi Chale Ge Nahi Chale Gi, Hamari Tunkhaien Waguzzar Karo.”
“We are without salaries from last 14 months and department is not taking any step. Our families are starving,” said Abdul Rashid a daily wager.
“PDD daily wagers are working round the clock. Many of our colleagues have got electrocuted and many have lost limbs. In return we are getting peanuts from the department. Our services are not recognized and the regularisation is deferred for unknown reasons,” said the protesting employees.
“Most of the maintenance work is carried out by the daily wagers and the department has not paid us a single penny for last three years,” they added.
They also demanded implementation of 7th Pay Commission report on the pattern of Central Government, revision of minimum daily wage, enhancement of Medical Allowance of employees and release of pending DA installments of July 2017.
According to the protestors scores daily wagers have been disabled and many have lost their lives while repairing transformers and electric wires.
Executive Engineer PDD Maintenance, Baramulla, Farooq Ahmed told Kashmir Images: “Daily wagers are working very hard and we can understand their problems.
“Their regularization has already been taken up with finance department and salaries will be released very soon,” he added.
