JAMMU, APRIL 18: The meeting of Department Related Standing Committee-I of Legislative Council was held here today under the Chairmanship of MLC, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone to examine the functioning of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) Department.

Legislators, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Mohammad Khursheed Alam, Girdhari Lal Raina, Naresh Kumar Gupta, Showkat Hussain Ganai and Dr Shehnaz Ganai attended the meeting and gave their suggestions for further streamlining the public distribution system in the State.

The Committee sought a holistic review of the process of allotment of Fair Price Shops by the FCS&CA Department and also called for expediting the process.

Taking note of a point by Dr Shehnaz Ganai regarding non-compliance of an official of FCS&CA Department in Poonch, the Committee asked Commissioner Secretary, FCS&CA Department to initiate disciplinary action against the said official.

The Committee sought cent percent distribution of ration cards in the state without any further delay.

The Committee also expressed its reservations over the privatization of the transportation of the ration supply.

The Committee also stressed upon the concerned authorities to ensure stocking and supply of sugar and K-Oil especially in far off areas. The panel also enjoined upon the Department to intensify market checking to curb the menace of profiteering and black-marketing.

Among others, Director, FCSCA, Jammu R A Inqlabi, Director FCSCA, Kashmir, Nisar Ahmed Wani, Controller Legal Metrology, J&K R K Katoch, Special Secretary, Legislative Council, Mohammad Ashraf Wani, Additional Secretary, LC, Ali Mohammad Rawat, and other senior officers of FCS&CA and Council Secretariat attended the meeting.
