Nawaz undermined Kashmir freedom movement, says Imran Khan

Islamabad, Apr 10: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has accused former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for “undermining the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination.”

In an interview, Imran said the PTI would present “ground-breaking” proposals for resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions if it ascended to power.

“My party is already working on these proposals. Our Kashmir policy will be substantive and not restricted to declaratory platitudes,” Imran said while speaking at his Islamabad residence.

Imran said Nawaz has compromised Kashmir’s struggle for independence by choosing to attend Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony and giving Hurriyat leaders a miss.

“He did this because he was busy meeting Indian business counterparts to talk business, not reaffirm Pakistan’s position on Kashmir. He put his business interests before the country’s interests and the Kashmiris’ struggle for self-determination,” Imran said.

The PTI chief also blamed former President Pervez Musharraf for causing “great damage” to the Kashmir issue by terming relevant UN resolutions obsolete.

“The UN resolutions continue to be of central relevance in that they reaffirm the legitimacy of the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination,” he said.
