Sham Choudhary for expeditious completion of de-silting work on Ranbir Canal

JAMMU, APRIL 5: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Choudhary today took stock of the pace of progress on on-going de-silting and cleanliness of main Ranbir Canal and its Distributory-I.

The Minister along with a team of concerned engineers visited several locations including, Beli Charana, Rajinder Park, Shakti Nagar Paloura, Patoli and Muthi   along the Ranbir canal, besides Kanha Chak, Hira Chak, Gajansoo, Galwadian, Pola Chak and Marh areas on the Distributory-I to review the progress of works.

At Shakti Nagar, the Minister took serious view of the pile of construction material by locals on the bank of canal and directed the officials to take immediate steps to remove the same immediately and issue a warning to the people indulging in such unlawful practise. He said such acts are punishable under law and the department should proceeds against the violators who try to damage the government assets. He also appealed the locals to help in maintaining sanitation along canals and do not put garbage in it.

Taking serious note of tardy pace of de-silting at Patoli and Paloura, Choudhary directed the concerned to work in double shift and complete the remaining work within stipulated time frame that is before April 11 so that the water in the canal is released on Baisakhi eve.

The Minister asked the concerned for identifying the places and formulation of Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for setting-up of Lift Irrigation Schemes and digging of tube wells to ensure supply of irrigation water at the tail end of the canals.  A number of projects stand prepared and submitted under Prime Minister Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) to meet the requirements of irrigation to every field in the State, he added.
