SPO shot dead by militants in Pulwama

Srinagar, March 31: A special police officer (SPO) was killed after fired upon by suspected militants near Muran Chowk area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday.

Official sources told news agency GNS that the gunmen fired upon Mohammad Ashraf near Muran Chowk at around 4:25 pm.

In the incident, Ashraf, a resident of Mouchpona village suffered serious bullet wounds and was shifted to the nearby district hospital where he succumbed to injuries,” he said.

Sources said that Ashraf, a former militant was working as an SPO in Cargo, Srinagar and at present was residing at Chanapora in Srinagar.

SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary confirmed the incident to GNS.

“Ashraf was fired upon by the suspected militants near Muran Chowk. He was working as an SPO in Srinagar,” SSP said.

Meanwhile, Army, Special Operation Group of Police and CRPF cordoned off the area and launched a hunt to nab the suspected militants.
