Dr. Suri presented her two newly published books on women issues to her during the meeting.

The first book entitled "Women And Development In India: Perspectives from Ladakh and beyond" is on diverse topics affecting development and empowerment of women in India in general and Ladakh in particular. The research papers largely cover paradoxical positions of women, status of women in India, development and discourse related to women, Buddhist nuns, eco-feminism, women health, maternal and child health, gender biases, challenges in women education, policies and schemes for women in J&K, marginalization of women etc.

Second book entitled “Women, Gender And Society In India” takes a fresh look at the issues faced by the women in J&K. Not only the gender gap in accessing education, health and economic and political participation remains very wide in the state, the gap between rural and urban population in respect of economic opportunities and access to social services also continues to exist. The book raises issues of interest to policy makers, practitioners and scholars regarding women’s issues in Jammu and Kashmir.
