Malik was taken into custody from the JKLF office in the Abi Guzar area of the city, a police official said.

He added that the separatist leader was arrested ahead of the death anniversaries of Parliament attack convict Guru, who was hanged inside New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 09, 2013, and Butt, the JKLF founder who was also hanged in the same jail on February 11, 1984.

Meanwhile, a JKLF spokesman said Malik was shifted to the Central Jail here on judicial remand.

Authorities on Tuesday placed Hurriyat-M chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house detention at his Nigeen residence.

Mirwaiz was placed under house detention late Tuesday evening at his Nigeen residence, Hurriyat-M said.

He was placed under detention soon after the separatists announced a protest programme for Feb 09 and Feb 11 in connection with the death anniversaries of Muhammad Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Butt.
