Karnah, Feb 09: In a recent visit to the forward areas along LoC in Karnah-Tanghdar, the Sub District Magistrate (SDM), Karnah, Dr Bilal, directed authorities for diffusing the live shells fired from across the border during recent border skirmishes.

Sources said that while on a visit to the villages including Gani Satpora, Hadeekra, Prada, Naikiya, Amruhi shells were fired from Pak army in these areas the SDM was informed about the presence of live shells which, people said, were closer to the populations and therefore posed a serious threat to the life and property of the locals.

SDM, who was accompanied by SHO Karnah, took serious note of the issue and directed for diffusing the shells with immediate effect.  Fearing for life, locals said that the live shells were very close to residential houses at many places which led several people to migrate and stay with their relatives in other villages.

Meanwhile, stating the army was capable of diffusing the live shells with utmost accuracy, army officials however sought a written affidavit from the villagers affirming that in case of any untoward incident it won’t be blamed for the same as diffusing live shells was not a hundred percent risk free job.

The spokesman of Shakti Vijay Bridgage, while talking to this reporter, said that even though army was fully capable of diffusing the shells there still was risk of damage. In such an eventuality army shouldn’t be blamed, he said adding that people will have to cooperate and give, in writing, the consent.

While talking Kashmir Images, SDM confirmed that if in case during the cleaning up operation any house was damaged, the government shall compensate.

People of the border villages also reiterated their demand for construction of underground bunkers which would function as safe alternatives to residential houses which are often damaged and people have to flee from the area for safety.
