Srinagar, 27 July 2019: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the losses to people in a major incident of conflagration in Habbakadal locality of Srinagar.

Party’s state women’s wing president and Ex MLA Habbakadal, Shameema Firdous while expressing deep sorrow over the incident said, “I express my heartfelt sympathies with the affected families and the traders whose property was destroyed in the unfortunate incident. I urge the divisional and the district administration to ensure that the affected families are adequately compensated. I also impress upon the divisional administration to provide house hold items to the affected families.”

Shameema visited the affected families to express her union with them in their hour of grief. She made brief stopovers in the constituency and interacted with people. While concluding her tour she said that such constant incidents of fire have become a norm in the old areas of Srinagar city.

“Most of the times the effective response of the fire brigades is not able to reach the affected fire hit structures due to non-transportable roads. During the Omar Abdullah led government, a major initiative of road widening was carried out but unfortunately the successive governments since 2015 could not maintain the momentum of development which was undertaken by him,” she said adding, “There are various bottle necks in the old city which if removed would usher in a new lease of life in the old city. One such bottle neck is at Babapura, Habbakadal roads. The administration has failed to remove various structures in the area. Many vital road widening projects of the city have unfortunately been stalled by the present government. I urge the administration to increase the speed of road widening in the old city of Srinagar.”
