‘Govt school students yet to get free uniforms in Pulwama district’

Pulwama, July 04: Students of government schools in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are yet to receive free uniforms despite the passage of more than four months.

According to students, more than four months have passed since the reopening of schools after the winter break but education department has failed to distribute uniforms among the enrolled students across the Pulwama district.

A student who wished to remain anonymous said, “Despite financial constraints, my parents purchased my school uniform from the market.”

Zahid Ahmad, a local resident of Pulwama district said that government is busy beating the drums of providing free education and free uniforms but the ground reality is totally different.

A senior official of education department told Kashmir Images that this year the contract was given to handloom department for providing quality fabric uniform to government schools.

When contacted Chief Education Officer (CEO) Pulwama, Naseem Ul Ganaie, said: “We were expecting the delivery of uniforms by the end of June but due to unknown reasons, Samgara Shisksha has delayed the distributor of uniforms.”

State Project Director (SPD) Samagra Shiksha, Arun Kumar Manhas, told Kashmir Images that uniforms will be disturbed within a week.
