Dr. Madhvi, an In vitro Fertilization (IVF) specialist from Jaslok hospital Mumbai said that they found three main causes responsible for infertility among married couples in Kashmir Valley. “People are having low Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) which is why they are producing very low percentage of eggs to have pregnancy at a very young age,” she said adding that stressful environment is also a concern.

She further said that intake of high calorie food (bakery and meat) and sedentary life style can be other two reasons for infertility among young couples in the valley.

Around 100 married couples from different villages of Rajpora were scanned at the IVF camp, most of who were in the age group of 23 to 26.

The team of doctors said that IVF is an innovative producer for hopeless couples who can’t fertilize naturally.

“The egg of female and sperm from the male of such couples are fertilized in a test tube outside the female body and nourished up to 5 days and the egg is implanted into the womb of the mother,” said Dr. Madhvi.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Rajpora, Dr. Javid, said that around 4% couples in the block suffer infertility.

“After coming to know about the low infertility rate in our block, I decided to invite the team of IVF specialists so that people can be informed about the procedure,” he said adding that all TVS scans were done for free of cost.

He further said that the doctors at the camp promised me that they will treat Below Poverty Line (BPL) patients for free.
