Srinagar, June 11: Day after the Pathankot Special court pronounced verdict in Rassana case, National Conference (NC) President, Dr Farooq Abdullah Tuesday congratulated the judiciary and the Crime Branch for taking the case to its logical end despite tremendous “pressure”.

The NC President said it’s the independent judiciary that keeps democracy alive in India else the new government in centre is hell bent upon destroying various institutions in the country.

“I would like to congratulate our Crime Branch and the team of dedicated officers who investigated the case with honesty and proficiently despite tremendous pressure. I would also like to congratulate Jhalla Sahab and his team for taking the case to its logical conclusion,” Farooq Abdullah told reporters at his residence here.

While praising District and Sessions Judge Pathankot Tejwinder Singh, who decided the case in record 14 months by convicting six among the seven accused, he said the court verdict in eight years old Kathua girls’ rape and murder deserves all praises and salutation.

The former Chief Minister said the judgment is an eye-opener for those who doubt the judiciary and the law enforcement agencies.

“Well I think judiciary is the only independent institution in India. I congratulate the Judge who decided the case with patience and hope our judiciary will continue to decide cases in the larger interest of the people because I fear the new government in centre may destroy institutions in our country,” Farooq said adding the judgment is praiseworthy and will be appreciated in entire world.
