Skandan reviews Panchayat level Sports infrastructure in JK

SRINAGAR, JUNE 11: Advisor to Governor, K Skandan today reviewed the progress on J&K Government’s initiative to develop the sports infrastructure at Panchayat level to engage State’s youth in various sports activities.

The meeting was attended by Financial Commissioner (Finance) Department, Arun Kumar Mehta, Secretary Rural Development Department and Panchayat Raj, Sheetal Nanda, Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary Sports Council, Naseem Choudhary and other concerned.

The meeting was told the concerned departments are converging to provide sports facilities at every Panchayat level in the State in order to engage the youth in various sports activities.

The Advisor was briefed about the details of playing fields that are ready at Panchayat level in different districts and the places that have been identified for the creation of new playing fields.

It was given out that the concerned DCs have been asked to provide the details of playing fields at all Panchayats in their respective districts along with the fund requirements to develop them in the State.

The Advisor directed the officers to speed-up the efforts to register a sports club at every Panchayat level, besides organizing sports activities and games at each Panchayat level.

During the meeting, it was also informed that the matter has been taken with the Government of India for providing funding and support for proper infrastructure, sports equipments, coaching, etc at every Panchayat level.
