Srinagar, June 07: Sikh Minority Forum (SMF) on Friday demanded a probe into the allotment of quarters in Sheikhpora Budgam.

The representatives of Sikh body demanded impartial probe into the allotment of quarters allegedly to non-migrants and non-government employees said those who applied in 2010 were ignored and while allotment was sanctioned to those applied in 2014 and 2016.

While alleging that some Sikh residents of Sheikhpora Budgam in central Kashmir were beaten up by a mob of particular community, the Forum said that the incident was disclosed to them by the Sikh families during their visit to see progress of quarters in the Sheikhpora vicinity.

“We demand an impartial probe into the allotments as the quarters have been sanctioned to some non-migrant and non-government employees. Isn’t this injustice with us? A handicapped youth who is a government employee was thrown from 2nd storey of the quarter but no action has been taken against the accused so far,” said Bikram Singh, Secretary Sikh Minority Forum addressing media at Kashmir Press Club here.

Singh appealed the incumbent Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Satyapal Malik to order a thorough probe into the allotments so that deserving employees including KP’s, Muslims and Sikhs get their rights.

He said the thrashing of Sikh families was a well thought out conspiracy to create communal unfriendliness in Kashmir.

“Many families live there without allotment while our community members are deprived of their rights despite having formal allotment. Actually some elements having the back of some politicians do not want Sikhs to be there,” he added.

The Sikh leader while appreciating century’s long communal harmony between Sikhs and Muslims said the vicious elements would not be allowed to paint the issue with communalism.

Singh also said those having no claim like non-migrants who are not appointed under PM Package or the employees of other districts having occupied quarters illegally are yet to vacate.

“We want that the quarters should be allotted to the employees who have claim under PM package and those occupied the quarters illegally should be asked to leave so that deserving employees avail the benefit,” Singh added.
