Baramulla: The employees in Baramulla district on Wednesday alleged that the District Election authorities has deducted House Rent Allowance (HRA) from their one month additional salaries granted to them for conduct of Municipal/Panchayat Elections-2018.

They alleged that only District Election Officer Baramulla has deducted the HRA of its employees, while as employees of all other districts of the state have received full salary.

A delegation of employees including teachers and lecturers told Kashmir Images that they fail to understand why election authorities have discriminated and marginalized employees of Baramulla district. “Like employees of other districts, we also risked our lives and performed election duties but we fail to understand as to why certain amount has been deducted from our additional salaries,” asked Dr. Kareem, a senior lecturer.

“District election authorities have cited some guidelines for the move but we want them to bring the guidelines into public domain,” questioned the employees.

The employees further allege that there are hundreds of other employees who are yet to receive additional salaries.

“While employees of other districts have received their salaries, we are still waiting for it,” said a SSA teacher, Javid Ahmad.

When contacted District Election Officer, Dr. G.N Itoo, said that the decision has been taken by the CEO office. “I will cross check,” he added.

In December last year, the government had ordered the release of one month salary for the employees who were deployed for conduct of Municipal and Panchayat polls.

An order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) had said the sanction is “hereby accorded to the payment of one month additional salary/wages/remuneration as the case may be, in respect of employees as were deployed for conduct of Municipal1 Panchayat Elections, 2018 or both.”
