Sopore, May 10: The residents of Brath Kalan in north Kashmir have demanded a Primary Health Center (PHC) in their village as the Govt. Sub Health Centre, located in their village, remains permanently shut.

Locals told Kashmir Images that every year, the state and central government spend crores to provide better healthcare facilities in villages and far-flung areas but Brath Kalan, a far-flung village, has been totally neglected by the government.

“Fifteen years ago, the state government established a Sub Health Centre in our village to ensure health care facility in our village which has a population of 5000 people but the centre remains locked as no doctor remains available there,” said a local, Bashir Ahmad Khan.

“We are being compelled to visit Sub District Hospital Sopore or District Hospital Baramulla for seeking medical treatment,” Khan added.

Speaking to Kashmir Images Block Medical Officer Sopore Dr Sami said, “Villagers should visit my office and submit their grievance.”

The officer further said: “We cannot appoint a doctor for Sub Centre but we have posted a pharmacist there.”
