CUK’s School of Edu, VMS holds awareness programme

Ganderbal, May 2: Central University of Kashmir’s School of Education, in collaboration with the Voluntary Medicare Society (VMS), Bemina, Srinagar organized an awareness programme about the special abilities of the disabled students at Green Campus, here on Thursday.

Registrar, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika, presided over the function, while as former Dean and Head, School of Education Prof. N.A. Nadeem was the guest of honour. Dean School of Education, Dr. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani, scholars, students and faculty members of the School of Education, and staff members of VMS Bemina were also present on the occasion.

In his opening remarks, Dean School of Education, Dr. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani emphasized the importance of organizing such events. Dr. Geelani expressed that students are practically oriented about the spirit of inclusive society through holding of such programmes.

Prof. Nadeem in his special address expressed that disabled children are the asset of any society whose potential need to be harnessed professionally. Expressing his gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nadeem said that CUK is responsive to the community needs and services as such the university has signed MoU with the Voluntary Medicare Society last year. The purpose of signing the MoU is to establish a link between the CUK and the Special School.

Registrar, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nika while presenting the presidential address emphasized that disabled children are the part and parcel of society. Prof. Nikka stressed that in no way we should segregate these children from the society. He further assured that CUK will always support the School of Education for organizing such programmes.

Finally, the programme was concluded with the distribution of token amount to the disabled students who brilliantly presented various cultural programmes and skits.

The proceedings of the programme were jointly conducted by Dr. Firdous Ahmad Sofal, Assistant Prof. Teacher Education, CUK and Alia from VMS.
