Govt making consistent efforts to empower youth, create opportunities: Sakeena Itoo

SRINAGAR: Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo on Sunday said the government is making consistent efforts to empower youth and create opportunities for their inclusive growth and development across Jammu and Kashmir.

She was speaking at an award function held at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre, organised by New Light Education and Environmental Services Foundation and New Light Education and Environmental Society, to felicitate achievers for their contributions in the fields of education, social service, youth empowerment and community development.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister highlighted the transformative role of education in shaping society and appreciated the efforts of the organisers in promoting a culture of excellence and achievement among students, educators, professionals and social workers. She stressed the need for collective efforts to empower youth and ensure inclusive development.

Sakeena Itoo said that since the formation of the present government, special emphasis has been placed on the education sector, with continuous measures being undertaken to improve the quality of education in government institutions across Jammu and Kashmir. She added that educational infrastructure and facilities are being upgraded to improve the learning environment and academic outcomes.

The Minister further stated that under the leadership of Omar Abdullah, the education sector received significant attention in the budget allocation process.

Highlighting the importance of education, she said the pursuit of knowledge should remain a priority and urged all stakeholders to work collectively to make the education sector one of the strongest sectors in the Union Territory, enabling students to compete successfully at national and international levels.

She also congratulated the award recipients and encouraged them to continue contributing positively to society through dedication, innovation and public service.

The organisers thanked the Minister for her support to educational and social initiatives and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting educational excellence, social welfare and youth empowerment through meaningful programmes and partnerships.

During the programme, the Minister presented awards and certificates to achievers from diverse fields.

Among those present were Ghulam Nabi Itoo, academicians, educationists, social activists, community leaders, representatives of various institutions, students and youth participants. Several individuals and organisations were honoured for their outstanding contributions and achievements.
