Srinagar, Apr 22: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for bringing nuclear bombs into the political discourse, saying if India has not kept the nuclear bomb for Diwali, Pakistan has not kept its for Eid.

During a rally in Rajasthan’s Barmer Sunday, Modi had said India is no more afraid of nuclear threats of Pakistan.

“Otherwise every other day Pakistan used to give nuclear threats. What do we have? Have we kept it for ‘Diwali’? (Warna aay din nuclear button hai, ye kehte the. Hamare paas kya hai? Ye diwali ke liye rakha hai kya),” he asserted.

Mufti tweeted, “If India hasn’t kept nuclear bomb for Diwali, it’s obvious Pakistan’s not kept theirs for Eid either. Don’t know why PM Modi must stoop so low & reduce political discourse to this.”

Later, responding to online criticism of her statement, the PDP president said it was disturbing that Mahatma Gandhi’s India was baying for blood.

“To be trolled for it by RW (right-wing) is amusing & baffling. Does one have to be enthusiastic about nuclear war to earn the credentials of a true patriot? Disturbing that Gandhi’s India is baying for blood,” she said.

Meanwhile, addressing the reporters on the sidelines of a party function in Kulgam, Mehbooba Mufti also demanded immediate release of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Muhammad Yasin Malik in view of his failing health.

Mehbooba said the condition of Yasin Malik is very bad.

“I would like to appeal the government to immediately release Yasin Malik so that he gets treatment. God forbid, if something bad happens to him, the outcome would be catastrophic,” she said.

The former chief minister also said that the GoI should allow Malik’s wife and his daughter to meet him. Malik’s Pakistan-based wife Mushaal Mallick had on Sunday said that she would travel to India to meet her ailing husband.

Malik, according to his family, was shifted to a hospital in New Delhi after his condition deteriorated inside the prison due to hunger strike.
